Hokianga Tamariki and Rangatahi Book Project
The Hokianga Tamariki and Rangatahi Book Project celebrates the voices, imagination, and creativity of our young people across Hokianga-nui-a-Kupe. This page is a living collection of writing, poetry, artwork, photography, and ideas shared by tamariki and rangatahi from kura and schools throughout the rohe as the current year’s book gradually comes together.
Each contribution reflects a unique perspective — stories of home, identity, whānau, environment, dreams, humour, challenges, and hope. Together, these works form a powerful snapshot of the thoughts and creativity of the next generation.
As submissions continue to arrive from teachers and students across the rohe, this page will grow with a selection of works and evolve right through until the final publication is collated, printed, and made available through the Hokianga Community Education Trust.
Most of all, this project exists to honour the courage of our tamariki and rangatahi who choose to share their voices with others. Every contribution matters, and every contributor should feel proud to stand among the many young authors and artists helping tell the story of Hokianga through their own eyes.

Inside are many eyes on life as it is being lived around the Hokianga Harbour. The poems in this book were gathered to celebrate two things, the Rawene Book Festival 2010, and the way these writers see the world. Poems with pictures in them, pictures with poems in them, everywhere light reflecting off water.
